Safeguarding
At Brockhampton Primary School, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility and is our highest priority. We are committed to ensuring that all children are safe, happy and able to learn in a secure and supportive environment.
Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL)
Our safeguarding team ensures that concerns about children are managed appropriately and in line with national guidance.
- Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Naomi Mansell (Deputy Headteacher)
- Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads: Darren Davies (Headteacher)
- Safeguarding Governor: Marie Turner
If you have any concerns about a child’s welfare, please contact the school office and ask to speak to a member of the safeguarding team.
Our Safeguarding Responsibilities
All staff at the school receive safeguarding and child protection training and are aware of the procedures they must follow if they are concerned about a child.
Staff are trained to recognise possible signs of:
- Abuse (physical, emotional or sexual)
- Neglect
- Child exploitation
- Domestic abuse
- Online safety risks
- Peer-on-peer abuse
- Mental health concerns
Safeguarding training is regularly updated to ensure staff follow the latest government guidance, including Keeping Children Safe in Education.
Reporting Safeguarding Concerns
If a member of staff has concerns about a child, they must report these immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
The safeguarding team will:
- Assess the concern
- Record the information securely
- Decide whether support is required within school
- Seek advice from or refer to external safeguarding services where necessary
In some cases, referrals may be made to Herefordshire Multi‑Agency Safeguarding Hub to ensure children and families receive the appropriate support.
Safer Recruitment
We follow strict safer recruitment procedures to ensure that all staff and volunteers are suitable to work with children.
This includes:
- Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks
- Identity and qualification checks
- Employment history checks
- References prior to appointment
- Safeguarding questions and expectations during interviews
All recruitment processes follow the guidance outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education.
Safeguarding Through the Curriculum
Children are taught how to keep themselves safe as part of the curriculum. This includes:
- Personal safety and recognising risks
- Healthy relationships
- Anti-bullying awareness
- Online safety and responsible use of technology
- Understanding trusted adults and how to ask for help
We encourage pupils to speak openly about any worries and reassure them that their concerns will always be taken seriously.
Online Safety
Online safety is an important part of safeguarding. We teach pupils how to use technology safely and responsibly and ensure that appropriate filtering and monitoring systems are in place within the school.
Parents are encouraged to support safe technology use at home.
Early Help and External Support
Sometimes families may need additional support. Early help can be provided by the school or through local services.
Where appropriate, we work with external agencies such as:
- Herefordshire Multi‑Agency Safeguarding Hub
- Health services
- Social care
- Educational support services
Our aim is always to work with families to achieve the best outcomes for children.
Safeguarding Policies
Our safeguarding arrangements are supported by a range of policies, including:
- Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy
- Behaviour and Relationships Policy
- Anti-Bullying Policy
- Online Safety Policy
- Whistleblowing Policy
- Safer Recruitment Policy
- Attendance and Children Missing Education Policies
These policies are reviewed regularly to ensure they remain up to date with statutory guidance.
