Curriculum
The Brockhampton Primary School curriculum is ambitious, inclusive, and rooted in strong moral purpose, designed to develop knowledgeable, confident, and well-rounded learners who are prepared for both their next stage of education and for life beyond school. Guided by the Black Pear Trust’s vision of unity, aspiration, and long-term impact, our curriculum balances academic excellence with personal development, wellbeing, and real-life learning.
Our curriculum is driven by core drivers: Communication, Reading, Relationships and Safeguarding, Enriched Experiences and Critical Thinking and Memory. These drivers shape every aspect of curriculum design and delivery, ensuring learning is purposeful, coherent, and relevant.
British Values are embedded throughout the curriculum, promoting democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance. Alongside this, our school values empower children to develop confidence and voice, explore the world with curiosity and creativity, and excel through high expectations and ambition for all.
Relationships and safeguarding sit at the heart of our curriculum. We prioritise mental health and wellbeing, restorative approaches, equality and diversity, anti-bullying culture, and a shared understanding of rules and boundaries, ensuring every child feels safe, valued, and able to thrive.
Communication and reading are fundamental pillars of learning at Brockhampton. Through strong language development, oral storytelling, systematic phonics, daily reading opportunities, and rich cross-curricular texts, we ensure no child is left behind. Creativity, performance, the arts, and responsible engagement with artificial intelligence further enhance pupils’ ability to express themselves and think critically.
Enriched experiences—including Forest School and outdoor learning, residential trips, competitions, leadership roles, and community engagement—broaden horizons and raise aspirations. Through enquiry, critical thinking, and real-life application of knowledge, pupils develop resilience, independence, and the skills needed to succeed in an ever-changing world.
